IntroductionDevelopment Statistics
of NWFP is one of the most important documents released by the Bureau of
Statistics annually. The last issue was released in 1999.This issue is the
16th in its series. The delay in its release is regretted as staff of BOS was
busy in different assignments related to arrangement of data linked with
devolution of power plan for the district governments during the year
2000-2001 and also due to preparations of MICS survey by BOS. This issue is being
released with specific angles to meet the broader data needs of policies
formulated and strategies hammered by the present Government for the
decentralized sustainable development of the country. The data for most of
the sectors in case of newly created districts of Charsadda, Swabi, Nowshera,
Buner, Lakki and Tank has been arranged and made available by breaking down
the old District's figures. An effort is being made to strengthen the
database in Bureau of Statistics by adopting the computerization techniques
aligned with data analysis aspects. This approach will deepen the district
database vertically, which is a vital factor of Regional Development via
District Development Programs, particularly being launched by the incumbent Government
aiming at Sustainable Development and Poverty Alleviation. The hard work, put in by the staff of Bureau of Statistics, in compilation of this publication is appreciated. Thanks also to all the Provincial Departments and Semi-government organizations for supplying the data needed for this publication. Suggestions for the improvement of the publication will
