Introduction

This is the 11th Publication of Important District-wise Socio-Economic Indicators of N.W.F.P., for 1999-2000. This issue contains latest available data alongwith the Graphs for the fiscal year 1999-2000. The Planners Administrators and Policy Makers and Economists including other readers will find this publication useful and interesting as the publication contains maximum decentralized information, indicating level of existence of Socio-Economic and infrastructural services and facilities at different level. This inter and intra sectoral and district comparison will help in better assessment of basic further needs of the regions and making decision for fixation of priorities, mobilization of resources in the light of regional development planning strategy. The process of updation of the database contained in this publication is a continued process of sectoral updation which has been accelerated for the year 1999-2000 to bridge the time gap on priority basis as updated data was imminent, due to changed needs, targets and strategy of the present government, to remove regional, class and sectoral disparities expeditiously.

I am thankful to all Government, Semi-Government and other agencies who co-operated in supplying data for this Publication and look forward for their co-operation in future as well.

I also appreciate the hard work put in by the staff of Bureau of Statistics for the collection and release of latest data.

Suggestions to improve the quality and contents of the publication will be appreciated.
