Background
- Created after the dismemberment of one unit and restoration of Provinces in 1970.
- BOS was created as a part of P&D Deptt: through Revenue Budget as a Statistical Arm of P&DD of ex-West Pakistan.
- The manifesto and charter inherited as a part of ex-West Pakistan BOS.
- The necessary data which are collected by BOS were also inherited from ex- West Pakistan BOS which is now Punjab BOS.
- With the passage of time the BOS grew and similarly in line with it the database also expanded.
Role of BOS
The role of Provincial BOS, primarily is to coordinate as a Statistical arm of Provincial Government between the Provincial Line Departments and Districts and then to collect data generated by them and present on desired format according to needs of Provincial Government after editing.
Organizational Setup & Scope of Activities
BOS being the Provincial Statistical organ coordinates with FBS in generating all the statistics by the FBS either directly or indirectly as in the Panels of all Statistics BOS represents the Federation of Pakistan as a representative of the Province either as a Provincial Statistical organ or as a representative of the Provincial Statistical Authority i.e Additional Chief Secretary.
The most important ones being National Accounts, Household Income Expenditure Survey, Industrial Statistics, Agricultural Statistics and all other series and surveys, where Provincial BOS provide an advisory role in the implementation of Statistical Projects and exercises by Statistics Division, which virtually contained an element of contribution of Provincial BOS.
One aspect where BOS NWFP excels than other Provincial Bureaus of Statistics is that this Bureau carries out extra work of FATA on the lines as a federating unit like a Province. During the recent year new Provincial Statistical vista has been opened in the shape Regional Accounts, as the regional Accounts is given equal importance for Provincial Economic Evaluation like National Accounts at macro level for National Economic Evaluation.
